The MotherShip User Guide

Here's your guide to easy, synchronised and smart advertising.

Not all steps are needed since you can use the hard work others have done for you.
Whether a step is needed or not, you can read in the descriptions.

The goal of this thing is: in step 1 to 6 you enter all the campaign data you need for Bing. Once done you can open your Bing account and copy/paste everything into it.

Before you start

Advertising is useless if you don't track properly! You'll only fire shots in the dark and you will never build.

Therefore you need to make sure your UET tracking code is set up properly on the used landing page(s).

You can find or create your Bing UET tracking code on the left hand side of you interface under the menu "conversion tracking"

Step 1: Initialise a Campaign

Step 2: Create an AdGroup

This is an optional step.
An AdGroup is used to define you Avatar!

Since several Avatars are already created, you can choose one for your campaign in the final step of this user guide.

Step 3: Create an Ad

This is also an optional step.
An Ad is where you write your ad copy.

There are already several ads written so you can just choose one if you wish.
Make sure it fits your Avatar!

Step 4: Get your SFM Generated Link

Step 4.1: Copy your Campaign code

In this Gallery, find the Campaign you just created and copy the name of the Campaign (something like "PJiesBing1") to your clipboard (windows: CTRL+C / Mac: Command+C)

Step 4.2: Get your SFM Generated Link

Go to the SFM "Link Generator": https://app.thesixfigurementors.com/marketing-tools/my-urlgen

  1. Make sure you select the right campaign and page (according to your choice in step 1 under "SFM offer",
  2. Paste the Campaign title you copied to the clipboard in Step 4.1 and
  3. Click the "Generate Advertising Link" Button.

The generated link should be used in Step 5

Step 5: Assemble your Ad

This step is essential. A bit like choosing the topics on your pizza.

The URL asked for is the one you just created in Step 4.2

Step 6: Prepare Your Keyword List

Now time for some Wordprocessor Magic.

You will need Microsoft Word or Pages for Mac.

What is this about?
On Bing, you need to ad your keywords as a list, with every keyword on a new line.
The keywords need to be "between quotes" for phrase match and [between square brackets] for exact match (see Bing account if you want to know what that means or ask).

It is a very tedious task to make such a list by hand, so here's how to do this like a pro!

6.1 Copy your keywords

In the view below, fin your campaign, click on the cell with the keywords and copy them to the clipboard (Windows: CTRL+C / Mac: Command+C)

6.2 Wordprocessing Magic!

Open Word on PC (or Mac) or Pages (on Mac), create a new document and paste the keywords you just copied in step 6.1.

Now your document shou look something like this:

But what we need for bing is something like this (the column lay-out is not important, I just did that to get it all on one page):

Word

hit CTRL+H to open the "find & replace" window.

  • In the upper field "Find" type a comma and a space
  • In the lower field "Replace" type a closed square bracket "]", "^p", and an open square bracket "["
  • Hit "replace all". If this doesn't highlight, you can first hit the left or right arrow in the find and replace window. This should fix it.
  • Now you should have a list of keywords between square brackets, but the first and the last keywords miss a bracket!
  • Go to the beginning of the list and add an open square bracket
  • Go to the end of the list and add a closed square bracket
  • Select everything (CTRL+A) and copy to the clipboard (CTRL+C)
  • Go to the Find and Replace window (CTRL+H) and fill an open square bracket in the upper window and a quote in the lower window.
  • Hit "replace all". If this doesn't highlight, you can first hit the left or right arrow in the find and replace window. This should fix it.
  • Now replace the open square bracket by a closed square bracket and hit "replace all".

Now you have your square bracketed list replaced by a quoted list.

  • Go to the end of your list and hit enter to create a new line.
  • Paste (CTRL+V) the square bracketed list that is still in your clipboard.

Done!

Keep the document open. The created list will be pasted in you Bing account in the very next step!

Pages

hit Command+F to open the "find & replace" window. Make sure the find and replace option is selected under the cogwheel menu:

Step 7: Fill in you Bing Campaign

The hard work is done! You have completely prepared your Ad 🙂

Now open your Bing account, click on "Create campaign" and use your preparations to copy and paste.

In this table you'll find everything you need from left to right. It's just a matter of copying cells and pasting them into your Bing account. Click on the triangle to the left of your name, find the campaign you just created and go!
